Rich traditions and nature abound

Living Culture

Hong Kong continues to fascinate as one of the world's most exciting, must visit destinations, with its unique living culture of East and West, and incredible harbor and city. Visitors become immersed in Hong Kong's most sacred traditions as they practice tai chi in Hong Kong Park, discover the essence of traditional Chinese medicine, explore the art of making tea, and view the ways in which feng shui has affected the Hong Kong landscape. A visit to one of Hong Kong's superb museums or its mystical temples is a must. A Cantonese Opera performance will expose culture enthusiasts to one of the world's most exquisite art forms. For a walk through Hong Kong's British colonial past, visitors need only marvel at the city's spectacular architecture or sip high tea in a sumptuous hotel lobby.

Spectacular Natural Setting

Nowhere else in the world can you be so close to nature and yet still have all the excitement of Asia's most vibrant city right at hand. In fact, more than 70% of Hong Kong's total area is undeveloped and the dazzling harborfront is backed by lush green mountains that give way to hundreds of islands awaiting discovery and exploration. The Northeast New Territories Island Hopping Tour provides a look at ancestral villages, breathtaking ocean views from hiking trails, and secluded beaches, just an hour away from the urban action of Kowloon.

Location & Brief History

Hong Kong is situated on the southeastern coast of China and spreads out over 1,110 square kilometers, including more than 260 outlying islands. The main areas are Hong Kong Island, Kowloon
Peninsula and the New Territories. Hong Kong Island lies just south of Kowloon, separated by Victoria Harbor.  The New Territories lie north of Kowloon and run up to the border with Mainland China. With a population of more than 6.9 million predominately of Chinese descent, parts of urban Hong Kong are among the most recent densely populated areas in the world. Yes, such is the diversity of Hong Kong that less than an hour's travel will take you to rural areas where people are few and far between. In 1997, Hong Kong returned to Chinese sovereignty. It is a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, operating under a "one country, two systems" principle of government, and a high degree of autonomy.
